Neck Pain

Neck pain is a widespread ailment. untitled2The neck is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body, and, because it supports the weight of the head and has a significant amount of motion, is extremely prone to injury. Common neck pain causes include trauma, slipped discs, poor posture, poor sleep positioning, worry and stress, and muscle pulls from carrying heavy objects such as groceries or an infant. Neck pain is seen more frequently in women than in men.

untitled1Chiropractic treats the cause of pain. Doctors of chiropractic carefully examine the neck, they look for muscle imbalance, loss of motion, spasm, swelling, pinched nerves, and vertebrae that are out of position. Chiropractors break up adhesions that prevent the spine from moving properly. They also reposition the vertebrae to relieve pressure on the nerves, which often relieved the pain and spasm. They then carefully monitor the neck to make sure it heals properly. Remember, pain is your body’s way of asking for help, it is not the cause of your problem, only a symptom. While taking aspirin may help you “get by” for now, if you ignore the cause, it can have more severe consequences later.

Think you can only get whiplash from a car accident? Think again!

Most people associate whiplash injuries with car accidents. But did you know that playing a weekend game of football, being pushed from behind, falling down, or even a violent sneeze can produce a whiplash-like injury? It’s true! Any sudden movement or stop of your body that forcefully snaps your head and neck forward, backwards, or sideways can severely your neck’s soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves), as well as the vertebrae. Even “minor” accidents can cause a major whiplash injury. Sometimes you can even injure yourself stopping suddenly without actually hitting anything.

Some people report pain at the time of the accident, however, many others state that the pain began hours or days later. This is because the body can release a great deal of endorphins (super string pain killers) when it is traumatized. These endorphins usually start to wear off around the time that the swelling from the tissue damage starts. As the swelling continues, more pressure and stretching is placed on the weakened and torn soft tissues which can cause even more damage and swelling.

Low & Mid Back Pain

untitled5Many factors can be responsible for low back pain. One of the most common is irritated or pinched nerves in the low back. There are many pain-sensing nerves in the spine. They supply the facets, discs and muscles. Irritation to these nerves can cause pain in the back, down the legs, into the abdomen, or any combination thereof. Depending on which nerve fibers are pinched or irritated, you could have symptoms of pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or even changes in your bowels or bladder.

untitled4Drugs will cover up the symptoms, but will not treat the cause. When you stop taking the drugs, the pain often returns. All drugs have side effects and many side effects can be worse than the original condition. Some drugs may mask the pain which could let a potentially dangerous condition get worse. Chiropractic works to correct the cause as well as strengthen and stabilize the area.

Headaches

Chiropractic looks to four general areas for a source of headaches: Vertebrae, Muscles, Nerves, and Blood Vessels.

untitled6Maybe you’ve had headaches for so long that you accept them as something you have to live with. The truth is, you DON’T have to live with headaches. The key to stopping your headaches is to finding their exact cause. That’s what chiropractic is all about. We feel there’s nothing more frustrating than being told your headaches are “something you have to learn to live with it.” With chiropractic you can live WITHOUT HEADACHES!

untitled9Many headaches start with a spinal misalignment in the neck, or cervical spine, which can produce pain and headaches. Your nerves carry important information about pain and musculoskeletal function. A spinal misalignment can lead to nerve interference and dysfunction. When this occurs, you may experience muscle stiffness, spasms, muscle tension, pain, and eventually chronic headaches. If the primary cause of your headaches is altered nerve impulses, chiropractic can get rid of your headaches!
